The Medical Billing and Coding (Microcredential) program at Hudson Valley Community College prepares students for a career in medical billing and coding. The program covers essential skills such as assigning correct universal medical alphanumeric codes for diagnoses and procedures, posting payments, filing insurance claims, assisting customers, and analyzing and resubmitting denied claims. The curriculum includes courses in Biology of the Human Organism, Medical Terminology, Introduction to Medical Office Procedures, Medical Coding, and Medical Billing, Insurance and Health Record Review. Upon completion, students will be able to apply medical coding compliance principles, understand HIPAA privacy and security standards, and describe efficient revenue cycle management in healthcare. This microcredential can also serve as a stepping stone to further education in the college’s Health Information Management and Technology associate degree.
