The Medical Coding Certificate Program is designed for students pursuing an entry position in medical coding. This career includes compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records of hospitals and clinics in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. After completion of this certificate program, students are eligible to take the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination given by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). The program includes courses such as Medical Insurance Billing, Basic ICD Coding I & II, CPT Coding, Introduction to Electronic Health Records, Disease Processes, and Medical Law and Ethics. Various courses are offered in a hybrid format, meaning that the course will be delivered online (through eLearn) and through virtual class meetings such as TEAMS or ZOOM. Access to the Internet is necessary to participate in online activities. High-speed connection is strongly recommended.
