The Medical Coder-Biller program at Miami Dade College prepares students for a career in the fast-growing medical field of medical record keeping and billing. The program is taught at MDC's Medical Campus, which features state-of-the-art facilities and experienced faculty. Students will learn to use computer systems to code, classify, and index information for health records and medical billing. The clinical portion of the program utilizes AHIMA's Virtual Lab, providing students with real-world experience through simulated lab applications. The curriculum includes courses in Health Information Management, Medical Terminology, Basic Principles of Disease, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Advanced Coding Systems. Upon completion, students will be prepared to join the administrative teams at clinics, medical offices, hospitals, and other outpatient facilities, with the potential to work from home. The job market for medical coder-billers is expected to grow much faster than average, with excellent prospects for candidates with formal training.
