The Medical Assistant Certificate Program equips students with essential skills in both administrative and clinical duties. Students learn to schedule appointments, maintain medical records, handle billing and coding for insurance purposes, take vital signs, record medical histories, prepare patients for examination, draw blood, and administer medications. The program offers accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and eligibility for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examinations. Students are required to complete a 160-hour supervised practicum to receive credit. Graduates report high satisfaction in meeting competencies, with a 100% pass rate in national certification exams.
The Medical Assistant Certificate program at Muskegon Community College has two progression options: full-time and part-time.
For the full-time progression, the program requires a total of 32-36 credit hours. The first semester includes 13-15 credit hours, the second semester includes 12-14 credit hours, and the third semester includes 7 credit hours.
For the part-time progression, the program requires a total of 32-36 credit hours. The first semester includes 6 credit hours, the second semester includes 6 credit hours, the third semester includes 8-10 credit hours, the fourth semester includes 8-10 credit hours, and the fifth semester includes 4 credit hours.
Please note that all MA courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C+ (77%) or better.
