The Medical Coder and Biller Training Program is designed to prepare students for certification as a medical coder and biller. The program focuses on learning the coding rules for the CPT, ICD-10-CM, and Level II (HCPCS) coding systems and applying these rules to code patient services. It also covers various payment systems, Medicare fraud/abuse, HMOs, and QIOs. The program includes 241 lecture hours, 48 computer lab hours, and 11 examination hours. Students will be introduced to medical terminology, healthcare delivery, ICD-10-CM, CPT, medical procedures, respiratory and cardiovascular procedures, human body systems, endocrine system, nervous system, anesthesia, radiology, pathology & laboratory, evaluation and management, medicine, and the expansion of the healthcare industry. The program also includes a computer software laboratory where students practice using Office Ally Practice Management Software. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the American Academy of Professional Coders certification exam.
