The Medical Billing and Coding course at Santa Fe College prepares students for a career in medical billing and coding. The course covers legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts central to this field, including HIPAA compliance, official coding guidelines, and third-party payer requirements. Students will understand all phases of the revenue cycle—from patient registration through medical coding, claims submission, reimbursement, and collections. The course also includes training in medical terminology, the structures and functions of the human body, and common medical procedures. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for one of three national certification exams: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS). The course includes a voucher for the certification exam of the student's choice.
