This course teaches fundamental coding skills for an outpatient physician setting, and the training prepares the student to take the AAPC CPC® exam for a career in medical coding. The course provides the most up-to-date information relating to CPT®, ICD-10-CM Volumes 1 & 2, and HCPCS Level II coding. The training also assures a broad, encompassing knowledge and expertise in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for physician services. The course provides instruction in the following areas:
- Understand the regulations, ethics, and laws that impact coding;
- Understand the appropriate application of CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes to multi-specialty medical records;
- Develop proficiency in applying the official ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines for Outpatient Services;
- Learn the various CPT® Modifiers and correct application; and
- Preparation for CPCTM examination.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion, and may be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Exam, the Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or other national certification exams.
