Towson University’s Certified Professional Medical Coding Course prepares students for a career in medical coding. The course covers the application of CPT® procedure codes, HCPCS Level II supply codes, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes used by medical providers to submit claims to payers. Students can choose between an instructor-led or self-paced course option. The instructor-led option meets online via Zoom on a set schedule, while the self-paced option is completed independently online with some instructor support. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam. The course includes materials, books, AAPC student membership, and the CPC® exam. The course integrates all elements of the coding process, including foundational knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, comprehensive overviews of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding applications, and introduction to operative reports. The course outline includes modules on the business of medicine, medical terminology, anatomy review, ICD-10-CM guidelines, CPT and HCPCS coding, and various body systems.
