The Medical Assisting Program at WVJC equips students with a range of essential skills to excel in health care settings, including:
- Obtaining patient’s vital signs
- Assisting physicians or providers with physical exams
- Performing visual acuity tests
- Obtaining laboratory specimens
- Performing capillary punctures for glucose testing
- Performing CLIA waived testing
- Performing phlebotomy
- Sterilizing medical equipment for medical asepsis
- Assisting with minor office procedures and surgeries
- Performing injections
- Conducting EKG
- Medication preparation
- Conducting medical research and writing
- Reviewing law and medical ethics
The Medical Assistant Diploma Program at West Virginia Junior College (WVJC) has a tiered tuition structure based on the number of credits taken per term. Full-time students taking 12 or more credits will pay a tuition of $3,995. For students taking 9-11 credits, the tuition is $3,395, while those taking 6-8 credits will pay $2,795. Students taking less than half time, or 1-5 credits, will pay a tuition of $2,195.
