The Medical Coding Career Studies Certificate program at Wytheville Community College is designed to prepare individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment as a medical coder. The program covers training in International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification (ICD), medical coding, and insurance billing. Students may seek entry-level positions in hospitals, doctors’ offices, and other healthcare settings. The program includes courses in keyboarding, medical terminology and disease processes, health records coding, human biology, communication processes, reimbursement issues in medical practice management, advanced coding and reimbursement, and ethics for healthcare personnel. The total minimum credits required for this curriculum is 26.
