The Medical Billing and Coding course at Jefferson State Community College prepares students for a career in medical billing and coding reimbursement. The course covers insurance terms and abbreviations, filing and billing procedures, and the requirements, rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to various insurance programs. Students will learn to translate written descriptions of procedures/services performed to their highest specificity using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) manual. The course also emphasizes the organization of diagnosis codes and the basic ICD-10-CM coding rules. Students will be trained to translate written descriptions of diseases, disorders, and injuries into ICD-10-CM codes to their highest level of specificity. The program is AAPC approved, and HIPAA training is provided during the first-class session. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam.
