A professional medical coder is responsible for reviewing medical records while identifying and translating medical procedures into proper diagnostic codes. The 20-week course of study is designed by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Students may sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination after successfully completing this course. Prerequisites include a high school diploma or equivalent, proof of successful completion of Human Anatomy & Physiology I and Medical Terminology (within 18 months prior to registration date), application for Professional Medical Coding, and WorkKeys Scores of 5 for Workplace Documents and 4 for Graphic Literacy. Students must be at least 18 years old. This course is approved for WIOA, MyCAA funding, and Sallie Mae Loans.
