The Certificate in Medical Assisting program at South College focuses on equipping students with key skills in medical lab procedures, pharmacology, office protocols, and professional communication. Students study human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology while receiving hands-on training in campus labs and gaining 180 hours of real medical facility experience. The program offers concentrations in IV preparation in Asheville and phlebotomy in Knoxville and Nashville. Graduates are eligible to take the AAMA Certification Exam for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential. The program, accredited by CAAHEP, aims to establish a strong foundation in medical science and office procedures, develop administrative, clinical, and laboratory skills, and instill professionalism and ethical integrity in medical assisting. It is delivered online with interactive modules and virtual labs, designed to be completed in 3 quarters, and includes virtual patient interactions to build essential medical assistant skills.
